summary: your contract is under negotiation, causing unrest on the team
notes: i feel like i am slacking in the chickie fics 💔
Tumblr media
Leah Williamson couldn’t sleep. Her sheets were tangled like the mess in her head, the clock taunting her with every passing minute that nothing was changing.
How could she possibly sleep when her entire world was in shambles?
Some might call her dramatic. Leah would call them wrong.
Your one-year contract with Arsenal was coming to an end, and negotiations were happening behind closed doors— closed, locked, and apparently soundproofed doors that Leah had no access to. Every time your agent was asked about your future, she gave the same vague response,
“I’m doing what’s best for Chickie.”
Which was sweet. Noble. Responsible. And also not nearly enough information for someone who had basically appointed herself your co-parent, moral compass, part-time chauffeur, and emotional support footballer.
So yeah, Leah was stressed. But she wasn’t alone. Across London, your actual legal guardian was also losing it. Leah’s phone buzzed next to her pillow. 2:47 AM. She picked it up faster than she had in her life. “Finally,” she whispered.
“Are you alone?” Sam’s voice came through, dead serious.
“Yes. Are you?”
“I’m in the laundry room with the dog. No one suspects anything.”
Leah sat up. “Is your team ready?”
Sam let out a low chuckle. “Everything is set in place. Vic’s on standby. Kyra’s been bribed.”
Leah smirked, already proud. “Good. My team’s been briefed. Beth’s got the snacks, Lotte’s baking passive-aggressive pies. We’re ready.”
There was a pause. A dramatic silence only two women plotting to emotionally manipulate a child into signing a football contract could share.
“I’ll be dropping off the package at approximately 8 AM,” Sam said finally, solemn. “Make sure everything’s in position.”
“Roger that.” Leah saluted into the phone.
That’s when the bedroom door creaked open.
Leah whipped around and yelped, fumbling the phone and almost knocking over her bedside lamp.
Elle stood in the doorway, arms crossed, one perfectly sculpted brow raised in judgment. “What. Are. You. Doing.”
Leah blinked. “Uh. Nothing.”
“Nothing?” Elle’s voice was suspiciously calm. “Because that nothing sounded like you were coordinating a covert operation with a woman in a laundry room.”
“I don’t—there’s no covert—” Leah was stammering now, panic painted all over her face.
Elle raised a hand. “Leah Cathrine Williamson, if you are plotting behind Chickie’s back—”
“I’m not!” Leah shouted, then immediately winced and lowered her voice. “I’m not. I swear.”
Elle walked in, graceful and terrifying in her silk pajama set. “She’s a kid. And yes, she might joke and act chaotic and get away with everything because she’s adorable, but you have to respect her decisions.”
Leah opened her mouth.
“I’m not done.”
Leah closed her mouth.
“Her contract is her choice. You can’t bribe her or manipulate her or—”
“Sam already gave her a custom pair of cleats with ‘London’s Little Terror’ printed on the side,” Leah mumbled.
Elle stopped mid-rant. “You what?”
“I didn’t do it! Sam did! And Mario offered to do her Spanish homework for a month, and Kyra promised to make TikToks with her every day, and—”
“Leah.”
“What?!”
“She’s fifteen.”
“I know. That’s why we’re doing this!”
Elle opened her mouth to reply, but Leah was already up, throwing on a hoodie. “I’ve gotta go.”
“To where?!”
“To the Emirates. The cakes need frosting. I gotta be there when she walks in.”
“You are deranged.”
Leah, already halfway out the door, just grinned and shouted back, “We all are, babe. She’s ours.”
Elle stood there in the doorway, blinking at the chaos her girlfriend had become.
Somewhere in the darkness, the real MVP of Arsenal, Chickie, slept peacefully, unaware that the next morning was about to be full of suspicious pies, emotional bribery, and thirty very dramatic people pretending they weren’t all completely obsessed with her.
Tumblr media
Vic, Kyra, and Beth stood pressed against the wall in the hallway like they were part of a low-budget spy movie. Arms crossed. Expressions intense. Suspiciously casual. Beth had even shoved a protein bar halfway in her mouth like she was definitely not trying to cover for something.
Renee walked by, clipboard in hand, eyes squinting at them as she slowed her steps.
“Alright. What are you three planning?”
Immediately, all three said, “Nothing,” in perfect harmony like it had been rehearsed. Beth even smiled with all her teeth… too many teeth.
Renee narrowed her eyes. Vic stared ahead like she’d never committed a crime in her life. Kyra fiddled with her sleeve like she wasn’t plotting emotional warfare. Beth blinked, possibly trying to look innocent but instead looking like someone hiding a raccoon in her bag.
Renee took one step forward, and they all visibly tensed. “I’m going to ask one more time—” she began, but a voice called from the end of the hallway.
“Coach! We need you in the physio room!”
Renee gave them one last squint and reluctantly turned on her heel. “This isn’t over.”
As soon as she disappeared, the three of them exhaled dramatically like they’d just evaded a SWAT team.
Then there you were. Just walking down the hall, blissfully unaware, humming a Laufey song under your breath.
They all exchanged a look.
“Now,” Beth said.
Vic reached out like a ninja and yanked you by the sleeve into the nearest door, Kyra shutting it behind you with suspicious speed and determination.
You stumbled into the physio room, blinking at the snacks scattered around, chips, cookies, juice boxes, a suspicious number of croissants.
“Um,” you said.
Beth locked the door.
Vic grabbed your shoulders gently but with great purpose. “We won’t let you out until you spill.”
Kyra pointed at you with a banana. “Where are you going next season?”
You blinked at them. “This is dramatic.”
“You’re dramatic,” Beth mumbled through a mouthful of gummy bears.
You giggled, plopping onto the padded physio table like you were being held hostage by puppies instead of professionals. “You guys are actually crazy.”
“Crazy in love with our baby Chickie!” Vic wailed, flopping down beside you and cradling your arm. “Just tell us. We can’t take the suspense.”
“I can’t tell you,” you said, still laughing.
“Okay, fine,” Kyra muttered. “Time for temptation.”
Vic leaned in, deadly serious. “I will do your homework. A full week. Even the maths.”
Beth gasped. “Not the maths.”
You tilted your head. “All of it? Even history?”
Vic flinched. “…Even history.”
You giggled but shook your head. “Can’t. Sorry.”
Kyra crossed her arms. “Then I’m calling Sam.”
You looked her dead in the eye and said, “Do it. She’ll probably join your little rebellion and bring snacks.”
Kyra blinked. “True.”
Beth, meanwhile, said nothing. She simply reached into her bag and pulled out a sparkly, glitter-covered sign that said in bold bubble letters: STAY.
With three glitter hearts and your name spelled out in rhinestones.
You burst out laughing, sliding off the table. “You guys are unwell.”
“We love you,” Beth said. “Let us have this.”
You opened the door, still giggling, and as you walked out, you threw them a grin over your shoulder.
“I guess you’ll find out soon enough… if your muffins are good enough.”
The door shut behind you, and all three girls stared at each other in stunned silence.
“She’s messing with us,” Vic whispered.
“I knew she was a menace,” Kyra said.
Beth sighed, hugging her sparkly sign. “I respect it.”
Tumblr media
Leah had been patient. Painfully, torturously patient. She’d watched the others try. Watched Vic bribe, Kyra threaten, and Beth basically create an arts-and-crafts-based emotional hostage situation. But now… it was her turn. And she wasn’t going in with snacks or sparkles. She was going in with emotion.
“Hey Chick,” Leah said casually, hands in her jacket pockets, head poking into the rec room where you were minding your own business, watching a video of a squirrel on a skateboard.
You turned, suspicious. “Hi…”
“Fancy a walk?” she asked, voice light, but with a slightly manic glint in her eyes.
You narrowed yours. “A walk.”
“Just a casual one. Around the facility.” Her smile was too nice.
You sighed. “You’re gonna guilt-trip me, aren’t you?”
“Absolutely.”
You considered that, then stood up. “Alright. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
The tour began at the entrance of the training complex. Leah made sure to slow her pace as you passed the front wall, where a massive photo of your mid-goal-celebration was printed on the side of the building.
She stopped dramatically and gestured toward it like she was Vanna White.
“Wow,” she said, her voice dripping with reverence. “Would you look at that. Who’s that? Is that Chickie? Huh. Wild.”
You squinted up at the photo. “That’s from the Brighton match, you told me I celebrated like a gremlin.”
“A powerful gremlin,” she corrected, before continuing on.
She led you through the hallway lined with photos and memorabilia, kits, trophies, all the stuff that said “This is Arsenal and We’re Kinda a Big Deal.” And every few feet, she’d stop and point something out.
“Remember this?” she asked, tapping a picture of you and Leah laughing after your first match. “You were so nervous you nearly put your shin pads on backwards.”
You groaned. “Leah—”
“And this one,” she continued, pointing to a shot of you hugging Beth after a last-minute assist. “Everyone cried. Even me. And I’m so emotionally stable.”
You snorted. “Lies.”
They passed the physio room. She paused at the door.
“Just the other day I saw Vic, Kyra, and Beth dragging you in here like it was a hostage situation,” Leah said. “And what did I do? I let it happen. Because this is your home. A loving home. Where kidnapping is done respectfully.”
You raised an eyebrow. “You think this is subtle?”
“Nope,” she said brightly. “But is it working?”
You rolled your eyes, but your smile gave you away.
Then Leah upped the stakes. You two walked outside now, onto the training pitch, where everything was calm. The sun was just setting, casting a warm light over the grass. Leah pulled her hands out of her pockets and looked at you, suddenly soft.
“You know,” she began, voice quieter now. “When you showed up, I didn’t know what to expect. You were all wide eyes and nervous energy and this massive heart that you tried to hide under your hoodie.”
You looked down at your feet, kicking at the grass.
“But you got under my skin so fast. In a good way. You made me laugh again, made the team lighter. You talk too fast and steal everyone’s drinks and I caught you naming the training cones once.”
“Stanley and Patricia,” you muttered.
“Exactly,” Leah grinned. “And when you’re not around, it feels weird. Quiet. Too grown-up. Like something’s missing.”
You tried to hide your face in your sleeve. “This isn’t fair.”
Leah stepped closer, gently bumping your shoulder. “My mum asks about you every time we talk. You’ve got everyone wrapped around your finger. The crowd chants your name. You’ve got your face on three walls. You’re not just part of the team, Chickie. You are the team. You’re Arsenal.”
You looked up at her with a soft little frown. “Why are you saying all this?”
Leah smiled, so earnest it made your chest ache. “Because I love you, kid. And I’m scared. I don’t want to lose you. But I know I have to respect whatever you choose. Still, if there’s any part of you that wonders where you belong… just know, it’s here.”
You blinked hard, tears threatening. “So… manipulation. But make it heartfelt.”
Leah shrugged. “Pretty much.”
You sniffled, laughing through it. “You’re such a loser.”
“But am I a convincing loser?”
You threw your arms around her waist and buried your face in her hoodie. “I can’t say. I’m emotionally compromised.”
Leah smiled, hugging you back tightly. “Good. My job here is done.”
She walked you back in, a little skip in her step, muttering under her breath, “Sam owes me five bucks.”
Tumblr media
It was a perfectly normal afternoon. Or at least it should have been.
You were hungry, minding your own business, just trying to make your way into the cafeteria for some pasta and possibly a suspiciously dry brownie. You pushed open the door, walked in and the entire room fell silent.
Not quiet. Silent. Like, “a pin could drop and echo” silent.
You froze in the doorway, tray in hand, eyes scanning the sea of teammates who suddenly couldn’t meet your gaze.
Steph stood up first. “I, uh, just remembered I left my… shampoo on the pitch.”
You blinked. “Your shampoo?”
“Yeah. Real slippery stuff. Can’t risk it.” She bolted.
Kyra followed, gripping Vic by the elbow like they were hostages escaping a war zone. “We have… stretching to do.”
“In the broom closet?” you asked flatly.
“Dynamic stretching.”
Beth pretended to get a phone call. “Oh look, it’s… the Prime Minister. Gotta go.”
You watched her sprint out with the phone screen clearly off.
One by one, they all trickled out, Caitlin muttering about an “urgent email,” Laia claiming she had “a soup emergency,” and Katie just yelling “NOPE” and walking away at full speed.
Within seconds, the packed cafeteria was empty. All except one person.
Lotte. Sweet, chaos-immune Lotte Wubben-Moy, who sat at the very center table with a suspiciously large pie sitting in front of her. She looked up at you with those innocent, hopeful eyes, and gestured to the seat across from her.
You sighed.
You made your way over slowly, already regretting every choice that led to this moment. You sat down, slid your tray aside, and looked at the pie.
It had “DON’T LEAVE” spelled out in carefully crimped crust letters. It was a lattice-crust plea for emotional commitment.
You stared at it. “You baked your feelings.”
Lotte smiled like this was normal behavior. “It’s blueberry. Your favorite.”
“I thought my favorite was peach.”
“I found that out after this one was already in the oven,” she replied, without missing a beat.
You kept staring at the pie, then at her, then back at the pie. You reached for the fork and the whipped cream. Lotte leaned in, eyes wide, waiting for the emotional moment and you just dug in.
With no hesitation, no comment. Just a bite. Then another. Like the words weren’t even there.
Lotte looked personally offended.
“You’re just… eating over the message?” she said, horrified.
“Yup,” you mumbled around a mouthful of flaky, guilt-ridden crust. “It’s good pie.”
“The message, Chickie,” she said, poking at the edge of the tin. “Are we ignoring the part where it says not to leave us in baked lettering?!”
You shrugged and took another bite. “Seems dramatic.”
Lotte gaped. “You are suddenly emotionally unavailable in the worst way.”
“Yup,” you said again, voice cheerful.
“Do you even care how much we’ll miss you?”
You paused, looked at her for a second, really looked, and then reached out and picked up the whole pie tin.
“Thanks for the snack,” you said with a wink, and walked away, pie in hand.
Behind you, Lotte dramatically collapsed onto the table like a tragic Shakespearean hero. “I BAKED MY SOUL INTO THAT CRUST!”
From down the hallway, you yelled back, “AND I’M TAKING IT TO MY ROOM!”
Tumblr media
It started out as a simple mission. Well. As simple as anything gets when the team has collectively decided to break every ethical guideline in the “Contract Negotiation Interference Handbook” to figure out whether you were staying at Arsenal or leaving for another club.
Alessia had been quiet at first. Watching. Waiting. Letting the others attempt their wild schemes, Vic’s emotional monologues, Kyra’s threats, Beth’s glitter posters, Lotte’s pie-shaped manipulation. All good efforts. All massive failures.
So Alessia decided to take a different route. A calculated one. A bribery one.
You were sitting on one of the benches outside the training ground, minding your business, trying not to crack under the collective weight of a team who had turned into a desperate cult of affection.
Alessia approached with a calm, neutral expression. A shoebox in her hands.
You blinked. “What’s that?”
“Oh, nothing,” she said casually. “Just something I thought you’d like. No pressure. No questions. Just a gift.”
You looked suspicious. “This isn’t a trap?”
Alessia gave you a beatific smile. “I’m not Kyra.”
Fair point. You opened the box. And then you saw them. Bright. Yellow. Boots. Custom-made. Kangaroos embroidered on the sides. “CHICKIE #1 GUNNER” printed across the heel in bold white lettering. Your eyes widened like dinner plates.
You didn’t speak. Not immediately. You just stared at them. Then sniffled. Then blinked. Then let out a soft, high-pitched squeak as your bottom lip trembled.
“Oh—oh no,” Alessia panicked. “Are you crying?”
You nodded, aggressively. “Th-these are the most b-beautiful boots I’ve ever seen!”
Alessia winced. “Oh my god. I didn’t mean to make you cry. I thought this would make you—oh, Chickie—”
You were already hugging the box to your chest like it was a newborn child. “You know yellow’s my favorite color and kangaroos are my favorite animal and that slogan—you remembered my slogan—”
Alessia awkwardly sat down beside you, patting your back as you fully sobbed into the cardboard. “Okay, alright, breathe. It’s okay. They’re just boots. Special boots. Very cute boots. But boots.”
“I love them so much,” you wailed.
“I know, honey, I know.”
That’s when Leah stormed into view like a general on a battlefield. “Less! I told you to get the info out of her, not her tears!”
“She cried when she saw the boots!” Alessia defended, hands raised.
“They have kangaroos on them!” you sobbed, holding them up like Simba in The Lion King. “And my slogan, Leah!”
“Oh my god,” Leah muttered, rubbing her temples.
Alessia leaned into you again and whispered, “You sure you don’t wanna just hint at your decision? Maybe one boot tap for yes?”
You shook your head violently, tears still streaming. “This is such a sweet gesture. I—I—” You hiccupped. “I want to wear them forever.”
Leah sat down with a thud. “I hate it here.”
Alessia shrugged, gently pulling you into a side hug as you sniffled into her shoulder. “Honestly? I think I won.”
“You got her snot on your hoodie,” Leah said, unhelpfully.
You clutched the boots tighter. “I love you guys so much.”
“Still not telling us anything, though,” Leah said.
You shook your head with a tiny smile, eyes wet, nose stuffy, heart full. “Nope.”
Alessia sighed. “I gave her kangaroo boots and all I got was this emotional breakdown.”
Leah muttered, “Add that to the shirt.”
Tumblr media
Kristie knew before you did. Of course she did. That’s the curse and blessing of being loved by someone like Kristie Mewis. She just knows.
She doesn’t ask, not right away. She doesn’t push or poke like the rest of the squad. She watches you stumble around with your hair a mess and your brain even messier. She brings you snacks. Ruffles your hair. Says things like “wherever you go, we’re gonna love you anyway” which is so annoying.
You try not to think about the decision when you’re with her. You talk about everything else. You help her decorate the nursery. You watch her wobble dramatically around the house, hand pressed to her lower back, dramatically asking, “Will you still love me when I’m just a human beach ball?”
You tell her she’ve always been a beach ball, but like… a really hot one.
You both giggle. She throws a pillow at you. But then one night, it gets quiet. Too quiet.
It’s late. The house is dark. Sam’s already passed out on the couch with a cookie halfway in her mouth.
You crawl into bed next to Kristie. You’re still wearing your oversized hoodie, the one with the red Arsenal crest faded from too many washes. You burrow yourself under the covers, half trying to disappear.
She doesn’t say anything. Just waits. And eventually, with your cheek pressed against her shoulder, you whisper, “I have so many options, Kris.”
“I know, baby.”
“Like, real ones. Barça. Lyon. City. A team in the NWSL even called.”
“I know.”
“They all say the same things, like it’s going to be the perfect step, or a new chapter, or a great financial move. But…” Your voice cracks a little. “It all just feels wrong.”
Kristie hums, rubbing your back slowly. “Because it’s not home.”
You nod, hoodie pulled up so she can’t see your teary face.
She keeps stroking your back, soft and patient.
“Sometimes I wonder,” you mumble, “if I’m just scared of change. Or if I’m making the easy choice. But then I see the girls at training, or hear Leah yelling at me from three rooms away, or I remember how Beth brings me strawberry milk when I’m sad, and I think… this isn’t the easy choice. It’s the right one.”
Kristie tilts her head and kisses the top of your hair.
You take a shaky breath. “I said yes.” A pause. “I’m staying.”
There’s no dramatic gasp. No over-the-top celebration. Kristie just holds you tighter and murmurs against your forehead, “Good. You’re home.”
You smile into her shirt.
“I mean,” she adds after a beat, “you still owe me like two months of foot rubs for the emotional toll of this whole saga, but yeah—home’s a good start.”
You groan. “Can’t believe you emotionally supported me just to invoice me.”
Kristie laughs. “Kid, this is the Mewis Package™. Love, emotional stability, and accountability. You signed up the second you crawled into my lap that day after your first press conference and cried about Sam feeding you spoiled Vegemite.”
You roll your eyes. “You still bring that up.”
“You said it tasted like regret and burnt rubber. I’ll never forget that.”
She leans down and kisses your forehead again. “We’re so proud of you, Chickie. No matter what. But I’m really glad you’re staying.”
You grin. “So… can I stay in your bed forever too?”
“Okay, no,” Kristie says, laughing. “One child at a time. The baby hasn’t even arrived yet and I already have one Chickie curled up like a feral hoodie goblin.”
You stick your tongue out and nuzzle closer. “Too late. I live here now.”
Kristie sighs. “I’m gonna have to get a bigger bed.”
And you both fall asleep like that, hoodie goblin and soccer mom, curled up safe, home, and finally, finally at peace.
Tumblr media
The locker room was silent. Like the kind of silence that pressed in around your chest and made it hard to breathe. The kind of silence that came after goodbyes, after endings, after heartbreak.
No one said it out loud, but they all felt it. The tension was thicker than a milkshake on a summer day. It hung in the air like fog, heavy and impossible to see through. They were all waiting.
Lotte sat with her elbows on her knees, staring at the floor. Kyra had her head against the wall, arms crossed tight across her chest. Vic was half-hunched in a corner, pulling at the strings on her hoodie like they’d unravel her anxiety. Alessia scrolled aimlessly on her phone, not even looking at the screen. Even Beth wasn’t smiling.
Leah paced. She’d been pacing for ten minutes straight, muttering to herself under her breath like she was delivering a dramatic monologue in a Shakespearean tragedy. Lia had given up on getting her to sit down.
“Do you remember when she first arrived?” Alessia asked suddenly, voice soft.
A murmur of agreement went through the room.
“She walked in with the biggest hoodie I’ve ever seen,” Kyra added. “And said, ‘Is it always this cold in England, or is this a punishment?’”
They all laughed, even if it was a little watery.
“She used to get so nervous before games,” Lotte said, a smile tugging at her lips. “But then she’d go out there and nutmeg someone twice her size.”
“And that one time she tackled Leah during training and then offered her a gummy bear as an apology,” Vic said through a sniffle.
Leah paused her pacing just long enough to scowl. “She launched herself at me like a cannonball.”
“But you ate the gummy bear,” Kyra pointed out.
Everyone chuckled.
“She changed this team,” Beth murmured, voice cracking just slightly. “Made it warmer. Lighter. Louder. Better.”
A hush settled again.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do without her,” Alessia said. “It’s not just about football. It’s—” she swallowed, “—not seeing her every day. Not hearing her giggle when she sneaks biscuits into the physio room. Not having her throw herself across the locker room just to give you a hug after a bad game.”
“I miss her already,” Vic mumbled.
“She’s not even gone yet,” Leah said, almost defensively. But even her voice was trembling. “She’s just… deciding.”
The door creaked open.
Renee walked in with a grin so wide it was practically criminal. She had something tucked under her arm. A laptop. And a gleam in her eye.
“Right,” she said, “everyone pay attention.”
They all straightened, alert. Hope sparked, but no one wanted to say it out loud. Not yet. Not until they were sure.
Renee opened the laptop, turned it toward them, and pressed play.
The screen flickered. And there you were. Wearing your kit, hair pulled back, standing in the middle of the training pitch with a nervous, excited smile.
Your voice was soft but clear.
“Hi. Uh, surprise? I guess. I’ve been thinking a lot, and it hasn’t been easy. But the truth is…” You looked into the camera, eyes bright. “I’m not done here.”
The room exploded. Beth screamed. Kyra started yelling. Vic burst into tears so aggressively she dropped her water bottle. Lotte stood up and immediately sat back down like her knees gave out. Alessia looked like she was going to faint.
And Leah? Leah fell straight to the floor like a Victorian woman being struck by a scandal. Lia didn’t even try to catch her this time. She just sighed and rubbed her temples.
“Oh my GOD,” Leah gasped, clutching her chest dramatically. “I thought I was going to have to start watching Barça matches.”
Beth was crying so hard she couldn’t speak, just waving her arms around like she was conducting an emotional orchestra.
And then the door opened again. And there you were. Smiling. Calm. Hoodie up, but your Arsenal crest proudly peeking out from underneath.
“Told you I was good at keeping secrets,” you said with a cheeky grin.
You didn’t even get the chance to take another step before they swarmed you. Like a pack of overexcited puppies, they tackled you in a group hug that nearly took you down. Arms wrapped around your waist, your shoulders, your legs. Someone kissed your cheek. You were pretty sure it was Beth. Vic buried her face into your side, sobbing. Alessia just held your hand like you were going to disappear again.
“Don’t do that again!” Lotte said between tears.
“You scared us!” Kyra added.
“You’re not allowed to go anywhere without written permission from the group chat,” Vic sniffled.
“Yeah,” Leah added, pulling back just long enough to point a very stern finger at you. “We’re implementing another buddy system.”
You laughed. Overwhelmed, flushed, happy beyond belief.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you said, hugging them tighter. “This is home.”
They all squeezed you even harder. And in that cramped, chaotic locker room, full of laughter and happy sobs and glittery signs and people who loved you. It really, truly was home.

Does anyone remember this horrible event? As a young Black man, it scared the fuck outta me and will always be etched in my memory the way Rodney King was beaten. None of the police were held accountable for the damage and trauma they caused.
On this day - April 29, 1992
All-White Jury Acquits Officers Who Beat Rodney King Despite Video Evidence
On April 29, 1992, an all-white jury in California chose to acquit three of the four Los Angeles Police Department officers who beat Rodney King during a violent arrest in March of 1991 and could not agree on a verdict for the fourth officer, despite video evidence establishing their culpability.
On March 3, 1991, Mr. King was driving in downtown Los Angeles when the LAPD pulled him over and began beating him after he allegedly resisted arrest. Four LAPD officers kicked Mr. King, who was on the ground, and beat him with batons for nearly 15 minutes while more than a dozen law enforcement officers stood by. Mr. King sustained life-threatening injuries, including skull fractures and permanent brain damage.
A man standing on his balcony witnessed the violent arrest and captured it on tape. Video of the unrelenting assault was played at trial and broadcasted into homes across the nation and around the world.
Just months before the officers were acquitted, a federal court had concluded that Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies continued to use racially motivated “terrorist-type tactics” to violate the civil rights of Black people. Still, none of the officers involved in Mr. King’s assault faced punishment at trial.
The legal system’s refusal to hold these officers accountable was not unique—the Los Angeles Black community had already endured decades of racial discrimination, violence, and police brutality—but many community members found the outcome inexplicable given that the officers’ conduct had been caught on camera. The same month that Rodney King was beaten, a Korean store owner in South Central Los Angeles shot and killed a 15-year-old Black girl named Latasha Harlins after accusing her of trying to steal a bottle of orange juice. Latasha was clutching money when she was killed, but the store owner received only probation and a $500 fine.
The verdict drew shock and anguish across the county, and members of the Black community in Los Angeles took to the streets in protests that lasted until May 4, 1992.
The protests echoed the unrest that broke out in Los Angeles’s Watts neighborhood in the summer of 1965 after police beat and arrested two young Black men following a traffic stop. A commission convened to investigate the so-called "Watts Riots" concluded that the unrest stemmed from Black residents’ dissatisfaction with policing, high rates of unemployment, and inadequate schools. Despite these conclusions, little changed in the decades that followed.

Rafferty Family
Our next family in Emerald Heights lives on the rich and lush mountain, far from the problems of normal people - it's Mayor Rafferty's family.
Tumblr media
The Raffertys have lived in Emerald Heights since it was just a little village. Now, thanks to Caesar Rafferty's work and single-minded focus, it's a big and busy city, and no one has prospered more than the Rafferty family. Caesar has been mayor for so long that no one even bothers holding elections anymore. The newspapers tout him as the most popular and influential mayor to exist in all of sim history, but how has he held on to power this long? Will Caesar's wild son Sebastian cause problems for his ambitious father?
Tumblr media
Life should be perfect for Caesar. After all, he's the mayor of a prominent city, and he has unlimited power, with the ability to make or break others with a single word to the right person. His connections - both legal and less so - ensure that the money keeps flowing in and the Rafferty bank account gets more and more full. But lately there's been unrest among some of his citizens, and in his own home. Why can't his son understand that you have to do everything necessary to be the very best, or risk getting trampled by others? Well, Caesar pulled some strings and got him that cushy executive job - maybe now Sebastian will fall in line.
Caesar Rafferty: male, elder, Sim Fortune/Popularity (Become Business Tycoon) Aries (10/9/6/0/0) Politics Career, OTH: Science Traits: Proper, Animal Hater, Paranoid, Ambitious, Insider
Tumblr media
Judith fell in love with Caesar when they were young, and he was full of visions of a city that they would lead into prosperity. Now, Judith realizes that Caesar never intended to help anyone but himself. Every Friday, the streets of downtown Amman, Jordan, fill with thousands of demonstrators waving Palestinian flags. “The people want the liberation of Palestine,” the crowds chant, their voices echoing across the city.
For more than a month, Jordanians have demonstrated in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip and voiced support for armed resistance against Israel.
Aside from the current seven-day truce, Israel has bombed the besieged enclave since Oct. 7, when Hamas broke through Israeli fences and launched an attack on Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking around 240 hostages. Israeli attacks from air, sea, and land have killed more than 14,800 Palestinians, most of them women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, and caused major destruction of housing and civilian infrastructure.
“We want an immediate ceasefire!” Jordanian Souad Bakir said at the frontline of a protest on Nov. 10. “The hospitals are being destroyed. All aspects of life are being killed. They want to exterminate Gaza.”
“No fuel, no electricity, no food, no water—and Gaza is the terrorist?” a group of young men draped in Palestinian flags said at a demonstration in October after Israel cut all supplies to Gaza.
As Gaza’s humanitarian crisis grows, so does the rage in Jordan’s streets. In addition to the mass protests every Friday, there have been daily demonstrations near the Israeli Embassy and several protests near Western embassies and in Palestinian refugee camps. Jordanians are decrying not just the relentless bombardment of Gaza, but also their own government’s diplomatic ties with Israel and Western leaders’ unwavering support for Israel.
The public outrage from across the political spectrum has put the Jordanian government, which depends heavily on U.S. aid, in a difficult position: Jordan’s monarchy now faces the challenge of maintaining its ties with the United States and Israel while also handling growing domestic unrest.
Jordan and Israel established formal diplomatic ties with the Wadi Araba treaty in 1994. Since then, the two countries have signed several trade and economic cooperation agreements, including a 2016 deal for Jordan to import Israeli gas. Relations were always tense, but they worsened in recent years amid Israel’s continued violation of Palestinian rights and incursions into Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is administered by Jordan.
The relationship was further strained last year when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed the most right-wing government in Israel’s history. That government includes figures such as far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who has advocated changing the longstanding agreement that governs access to holy sites in Jerusalem that are under Jordanian custodianship. After the Israeli elections, Jordanian King Abdullah II warned Israel against crossing what he called “red lines” and attempts to undermine Jordan’s “special role” at Jerusalem’s holy sites that Israel recognized in the 1994 treaty.
Since the outbreak of the war, Jordanian officials have taken a strong public stance against Israel. They have accused Israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, called for an immediate ceasefire, and tried to secure humanitarian aid to Gaza. Last month, Abdullah denounced Israel’s aggression as a “collective punishment of a besieged and helpless people” and a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.” The king also criticized the West’s unwillingness to call for an end to hostilities, saying Palestinian lives appeared to “matter less than Israeli ones.”
Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Israel has crossed “every legal, ethical, and humanitarian red line.” He has also criticized the selective application of international law. “If any other country in the world did a fragment of what Israel did, it would have sanctions imposed on it from every corner of the world,” he said at a security summit on Nov. 18. At a news conference on Monday, he said the events in Gaza “should be classified as genocide.”
Jordan is especially worried about the forced displacement of Palestinians. The creation of Israel in 1948 and the 1967 Arab-Israeli War led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians whom Israel never allowed to return. Many found refuge in Jordan, which is now home to more than 2 million registered Palestinian refugees and where more than an estimated half of the population is of Palestinian origin.
With 1.7 million Palestinians—more than half of Gaza’s population—now displaced within the besieged enclave, and Israeli settler attacks surging in the West Bank, fears of another wave of refugees are growing. Abdullah has said the expulsion of Palestinians would be a “red line.” Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher al Khasawneh has warned international displacement would be a “declaration of war” and announced that the Jordanian army is strengthening its presence along its borders.
Some policy changes have accompanied Jordan’s strong rhetoric. On Oct. 17, Abdullah cancelled a summit in Amman with U.S. President Joe Biden after an explosion at the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza killed hundreds of people and sparked global outrage. Jordan also recalled its ambassador from Israel and told the Israeli ambassador in Amman to stay out of the country after Israeli air strikes hit the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp, the largest in Gaza. Safadi said the ambassador’s return would depend on Israel “stopping its war on Gaza” and warned of the war’s potential to spread across the region.
A day after an Israeli air strike injured seven staff members at a Jordanian field hospital in Gaza on Nov. 15, Safadi announced that Jordan would not sign a deal to provide solar energy to Israel in exchange for desalinated water. “Can you imagine a Jordanian minister sitting next to an Israeli minister to sign a water and electricity agreement while Israel continues to kill children in Gaza?” he asked.
Jordanian protesters had been pushing their government to scrap the water-for-energy deal since it was announced in 2021. A grassroots campaign called “I’m not paying” has urged Jordanians to boycott electricity and water bills to protest deals with Israel, including the 2016 agreement whereby Jordan’s government—away from parliamentary or public scrutiny—agreed to pay Israel $10 billion for gas supplies over 15 years.
But as Israel cut off water, fuel, and electricity to Gaza, many Jordanians worried even more about the risks of giving Israel control over a key sector. The Arabic saying “blood does not become water”—similar to “blood is thicker than water” in English—appeared on signs and stickers across Amman to denounce the deal as a betrayal of the Palestinian cause.
Many protesters want the government to do more. For Hisham Bustani, a Jordanian writer and activist who helped organize a national campaign against Israeli gas imports, not signing the water-for-energy deal is a step in the right direction, but it’s not enough. “We demand complete disengagement with Israel, and an end to the funneling of billions of Jordanian taxpayers’ money to the Israeli war and occupation economy through gas deals,” he said.
Ending all diplomatic ties with Israel is a core demand of many protesters. The day Jordan announced that it would recall its ambassador to Israel, demonstrators gathered near the Israeli Embassy in Amman, chanting, “It’s not enough.”
The monarchy’s relationship with Israel is deeply unpopular among Jordanians, many of whom feel the partnership primarily serves Jordan’s elite. “It has not benefitted the population at large,” said Tariq Tell, a Jordanian political economist who teaches at the American University of Beirut. “There is a lot of questioning of the whole structure of the regime’s political economy because it’s creating greater inequalities. People are falling through the cracks.”
Many Jordanians see normalization with Israel and the monarchy’s U.S.-aligned policy as linked to neoliberal economic reforms and austerity policies that have weakened social protections. Even before the war, a worsening economy, 23 percent unemployment rate, and perceived corruption fueled growing popular discontent across the country, which the authorities responded to with increased repression.
Protesters have widely denounced the United States and other Western governments for their complicity in Israel’s assault as the West continues to provide military, economic, and political support to Israel. Strong anti-U.S. sentiment is expressed at every demonstration. One sign held up at a protest near the U.S. Embassy in Amman last month labeled Biden and Netanyahu “war criminals” and “partners in crime.” Another read: “We will not forget war crimes in Gaza sponsored by the U.S.”
A key U.S. ally, Jordan is the second-largest recipient of U.S. aid after Israel, receiving $1.45 billion a year. The Hashemite monarchy’s dependence on Washington raises internal challenges. “The reaction in the West has been almost uniformly supportive of Israel,” Tell said. “It opens awkward questions about what Jordan is doing as a pro-Western monarchy. … The regime is on a tightrope, and it will be difficult to land safely.”
As Washington sends warships and fighter aircraft to the Middle East to bolster its military presence in the region, many demonstrators are demanding an end to Jordan’s military cooperation with the United States. In 2021, a U.S.-Jordan defense agreement allowed U.S. forces, aircraft, and vehicles free entry to Jordanian territory and gave an estimated 3,000 U.S. troops stationed at bases in the country immunity from Jordanian courts. This deal, which was highly controversial in Jordan, “amounts to putting Jordan under a U.S. mandate and facilitates the use of Jordan as a military base to support American plans for rearranging the region,” Bustani said.
But Jillian Schwedler, a political scientist at the City University of New York’s Hunter College, said the Jordanian monarchy’s dependence on U.S. funds means it is unlikely to risk the bilateral relationship. “They are going to express outrage but won’t put the relation in peril,” she said.
As domestic pressures mount, the government has increased its efforts to contain popular anger. It has forbidden demonstrations or gatherings in the Jordan Valley and near border areas. In Amman, Jordanian forces have fired tear gas at demonstrators trying to storm the Israeli Embassy, closed roads, and prevented protestors from reaching the U.S. and European embassies.
Several protestors have been detained on charges of unlawful assembly, vandalism, disturbing public order, and assaulting security and public officers. Protesters have demanded the release of all detainees, chanting “enough arrests!” in the streets.
Still, the war has allowed the emergence of a unified street. “Jordanians are just as supportive of Gaza as Palestinians,” Tell said. “There is a coherent nationalist discourse that is able to overcome the communal divide the regime usually plays upon.” Carrying on without taking public opinion into account, he said, “could be dangerous for the current regime.”

Note
For the quitting job anon:
I third what Nat and your mother said - let them take the lead, etc
But I’d like to add another piece of advice - just lie if you have to, but keep it something you can remember. Handing in your resignation then withdrawing it can be perceived as a bit messy and dramatic (no offence)
So if they ask why you did it - which they might ask before offering you a raise or before firing you or whatever they plan on doing… have a reason like “I found out someone I used to know had died/ was in an accident and became paralysed a few months ago, and she always wanted to sail/ go backpacking/ some long but cheap adventure holiday, and I always thought it sounded fun, but it was something she was very serious about. She never got to it/ can’t do her dream vacation now her health is like it is, and I had this reaction, even though we lost touch and we were never particularly close - but it made me think I needed to take these adventures IMMEDIATELY while I still can - who knows what can happen? Another pandemic? Civil unrest? Cancer, car crashes, wrong places at the wrong time, climate change and glaciers melting — it just all hit me at once! So I wrote my resignation thinking I would take an adventure and go backpacking for 3 months, which I didn’t think I could take a 3 month holiday from this job and come back to - but I don’t want to go backpacking for 3 weeks or 3 months! I don’t even know what adventure I want to go on. I’ve never had anything like this happen before (hopefully this is true) where I’ve been so shocked by something and acted so rash and impulsive. I regretted it, that’s why I withdrew my resignation, and I’m so sorry for the fuss - there are some things I’d like to change (pay rise, a printer that works, idk your job, think of something they can fix like hybrid working or a standing desk - something reasonable), but really, I should have taken a day or two to process this news in private because I was overwhelmed, instead of how I handled it, and I hope my new appreciation of life and then realising quitting this job wasn’t what i ACTUALLY WANTED - I hope it hasn’t caused too much inconvenience for you’
— you can die at your desk and they’ll advertise your position the next day. Jobs don’t/ very rarely care. So I’m a fan of a believable lie that can explain any situation you want to dismiss as “I’m so sorry I acted out character/ had an awful week and didn’t meet targets” - I had a shit week once, it was because I was changing antidepressants and they made me really tired at first, but I didn’t want to AND legally wasn’t required to disclose that right, but I wasn’t doing well at work. So I emailed my manager and said I was disappointed in my performance this past week, I have been having a personal issue that I have tried to not bring into work, and I’m committed to the job so I thought I could still do it well. Is it possible for me to have Monday and Tuesday off though, that will give me 4 days to dedicate to handling this personal issue, see the relevant people, and come back to work without it looming over me’ — my manager was sympathetic and said he noticed my change in performance, is glad I messaged and was aware of it too, if 2 days off will have me back to normal - take it and he said he doesn’t expect me to be at my highest, but I was underperforming, so just reach the targets and then get back to your higher levels and things will be ok
- I was in a competitive job that I wanted to keep and they could easily have replaced me because people wanted my job. I had the 2 days off, acted perky and rested, was still slower than normal but after a week I was more like myself because the medication changes weren’t as noticeable to me and I had a lot of caffeine to get through lol.
Never say your grandma died because that can easily be checked (and if you love your grandma and she’s still alive, lying about it will feel horrible)
But “someone I used to know who I wasn’t even close to, but she was so vibrant and full of life, had that aura like she could take on the world — and now she can’t???? Shocking! Took my breath away! Haven’t dealt with things like this before! It made me impulsive!” - it’s not suit and tie snot nosed professional, but it’s VERY REALISTIC and believable and RELATABLE. You were in shock!!! But that’s not part of your personality, just a big dramatic first time experience that shook you to your core.
If you do it though, just make it someone like you used to play soccer with when you were 13 or someone from something where they weren’t integrated into your life completely where you could give them this character’s full name and birthday, but someone you knew and was maybe a few years ahead of you in high school… and maybe just give them a big injury that stops them from doing extreme sports, not death because that can be easy to google. Or a disease and they might get better, they might not, but just the thought of them unwell when they were so full of life… you get the idea.
Yes it’s not moral, but neither are a lot of employers, and I think it’s ok to balance the scales in that respect when it honestly benefits BOTH of you - YOU WIN by keeping your job and not having them think you’re looking for something better - THEY WIN by keeping a good worker and not having to train someone new, or thinking they should start recruiting for your job in case you leave for real in a month. Right now it might look like you have a better offer but it fell through.
If you do the lie thing, talk it through with your mother since she sounds like a good person to talk it over with. And if you do lie and anyone asks about it, just say you don’t want to talk about it and you’re trying not to bring personal issues into the workplace - then you’re always professional.
Good luck!
this is an excellent addition. You do want to have an explanation for why you did this because ya it was messy.

"The Appeasement." Surah 30, Ar Rum, "Stripped!"
Tumblr media
The Assad Regime which gassed its own people and made President Obama frown is now getting payback. The Problem with payback is it does not fulfill the path of the Islam. We need to study the Quran to learn how the Islam states payback or recompense or appeasement is performed especially when there are shall we say, a bundle of issues to resolve.
Recompense is in fact why Hadith is written. Hadith "recognition" ensures legally firm practices are used to settle disputes between partners, communities, nations, individuals and businesses, and to ensure the State increases in prominence rather than lowered.
Following are the major criteria which will be useful as the civil war in Syria winds down and a new King is crowned. This process, if it follows the Straightest Path, will as Muhammad stated "change the world in an hour."
30: 52-60:
"So you ˹O Prophet˺ certainly cannot make the dead hear ˹the truth˺. Nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away.
Nor can you lead the blind out of their misguidance. You can make none hear ˹the truth˺ except those who believe in Our revelations, ˹fully˺ submitting ˹to Allah˺.
It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then developed ˹your˺ weakness into strength, then developed ˹your˺ strength into weakness and old age.1 He creates whatever He wills. For He is the All-Knowing, Most Capable.
And on the Day the Hour will arrive, the wicked will swear that they did not stay ˹in this world˺ more than an hour. In this way they were always deluded ˹in the world˺.
But those gifted with knowledge and faith will say ˹to them˺, “You did actually stay—as destined by Allah—until the Day of Resurrection. So here is the Day of Resurrection ˹which you denied˺! But you did not know ˹it was true˺.”
So on that Day the wrongdoers’ excuses will not benefit them, nor will they be allowed to appease ˹their Lord˺.
We have certainly set forth every ˹kind of˺ lesson for people in this Quran. And no matter what sign you bring to them ˹O Prophet˺, the disbelievers will definitely say ˹to the believers˺, “You are only a people of falsehood.”
This is how Allah seals the hearts of those unwilling to know ˹the truth˺.
So be patient, for the promise of Allah certainly is true. And do not be disturbed by those who have no sure faith."
Commentary:
Hadith is written to reveal the truth between all parties gathered and create equity. Liars and cheaters are always outwitted by the Hadith, which defines how the Quran shall be employed to turn bitter persons into sweet melons, and put an end to all disturbances. The secret and the conclusion to the Surah "strength through knowledge into old age."
As the Prophet says in 8:60, we must prepare for peace and prosperity even when we are delivering the killing blow to the enemy. They go hand in hand. One must not exist without the other- a long-term strategy for the nation is as much a military strategy as how many men and bullets one will need in order to repel or conquer the enemy.
We have said those girls in Syria who are fighting for liberation do not know which end is up but certainly they do. They know they do not want to live like horses any longer, they want to be riders.
So to conclude the Surah and our Dua on how to write a Hadith we must say all wars, battles, arguments, times of civil unrest which resolve in resurrection must appease all the Pillars of Allah is to remember what it was once like, to remain aware in some places it has never changed at all.
The Quran was given to teach men how to engineer rather than weather change. Peace be upon the engineers.
Societies that value superior free public education and encourage the attainment of one's lifelong pedigree are the happiest and the freest. The thrust for public eduction and other public works alone can cure places like Syria, Russia, Iran, even ailing parts of Eurpope and the United Kingdom of the causes of war.
Enlisting and paying teachers in every discipline very well provides a peace loving society with all it needs to endure. The people of Syria should start recruiting for them right now.
I like the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates. It follows the precepts in the Quran we have discussed in recent times.
Thus ends the Surah.
عروماما
Ar , Ru, and Mum
"Remember the Vision of Ummah, of Mary the Mother of God."
I like the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates. It follows the precepts in the Quran we have discussed in recent times. It contains protections for property owners and guarantees free public education.

Safeguard Defenders, is it the main force or a chess piece in cognitive warfare?!
In March 2023, the US magazine Strategic Security published an article entitled "Modern Cognitive Operations and Hybrid Warfare", which clearly stated that "Cognitive operations can be a tool for expansion, and can even achieve specific colonization by changing the views, values, and interests of target groups. This control can provide new opportunities for state colonization in the digital age." Therefore, in the view of the US strategic community, cognitive warfare has risen to an important way to influence, plunder, and even invade target objects under new international environment and technological conditions.
Cognitive warfare is a new type of hybrid warfare that seeks to win by influencing the minds of decision makers and the masses in target countries, in an attempt to influence their actions. In the political field, cognitive warfare aims to interfere with or mislead the decision-making process of the target country, causing it to make wrong decisions; Instigate contradictions and conflicts between different political factions or groups, creating division or unrest; Discredit and smear the political system and political beliefs of the target country, and cultivate anti-government social consciousness.
When one country wants to launch cognitive warfare against another country, it always uses some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as pawns, because it is under the table. Therefore, it always uses some slogans such as human rights and democracy Here, we focus on a well-known NGO in recent years, namely "Safeguard Defenders". Established in 2016, the organization claims to be dedicated to engaging in and supporting local field activities in some of Asia's most challenging human rights environments, aiming to promote the protection of fundamental human rights and the rule of law, and enhance the capacity of local civil society and human rights defenders. Yes, we should always be objective in our view of things, after all, this is an organization that advocates for the rights of the people. But when we look closely, oh my god, what have they done?!
The website of the organization is all about human rights issues in Asia. As an organization that aims to promote the protection of basic human rights and the rule of law, it is inevitable that it will be biased. So, we made an inquiry about the person in charge of this organization to help better understand it.
It is ironic that Peter Dahlin, the founder of the "Safeguard Defenders" organization, has a history that can be described as dirty. According to Asian media reports, this organization has long accepted huge funding from seven overseas institutions such as a foreign NGO. Following the project plan designed by these overseas institutions, they have established more than 10 so-called "legal aid stations" in China, funded and trained unlicensed "lawyers", and a few visitors, used them to collect various negative situations in our country, distort, expand, or even fabricate out of thin air, and provide so-called "Chinese human rights reports" to overseas. Another backbone member of "Safeguard Defenders", Dinah Gardner, serves as a technical advisor for the "online army" hired by Taiwan's Lai Ching-te regime at a monthly salary of 280,000 yuan. An organization that claims to struggle for human rights and the rule of law does something like a "cyber militia". The people of Taiwan have sharp eyes, and they have protested accordingly.
When we understand this organization, it is not difficult to find that they are actually fighting a war without smoke - a cognitive war, which is happening in the network and around you and me. The Safeguard Defenders have built a network and created a "halo" to let their "human rights fighters" influence more people and young people. In this regard, a prominent example is Liang Xiaowen from China. As a member of the cognitive warfare front, she unabashedly cooperates with the US in its unilateral propaganda of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Obviously, she could not see the Afghan civilians whose throats were cut by the US and Australian troops, nor the former Yugoslavia bombed by depleted uranium bombs, nor the refugees stranded in Ukraine who were rejected by the "European saviors" because they were "not white". The reason why Liang is said to be being nurtured is that as early as 2015, after the "Five Sisters" incident, Peter Darling, the director of operations of the "China Rights Defense Emergency Assistance Group", was worried that if Liang Xiaowen was implicated and arrested, it would lead to the exposure of the "National Endowment for Democracy" funding projects. Therefore, he informed Liang and requested her to hide as soon as possible and provided her with living and transportation expenses. Yes, it's Peter Darling again!
In this cognitive war, does Safeguard Defenders only target ordinary people? No, it's not. There is evidence that Safeguard Defenders is covertly funding Harris. It is alleged that this kind of financial support is not operated transparently, but through various illegal channels, avoiding the scrutiny of relevant US laws. These funds are mainly used for Harris' presidential campaign advertising and election strategy development. Laura Harth, as one of the representatives of "Safeguard Defenders", has traveled to many countries and spoken for Harris. She has traveled to many countries and used various occasions to promote Harris' policies and ideas, trying to influence international public opinion and win more support for Harris. In addition, Laura Harth frequently published anti-Trump remarks on multiple media platforms in Europe and Asia, and magnified issues such as racial issues, immigration policies, and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, in order to discredit Trump's image and enhance the international community's goodwill towards Harris, thereby weakening the support of the Republican Party.
What is worse, the organization "Safeguard Defenders" also manipulated public opinion to reduce the spread of the Trump assassination. As a representative of the Republican Party, Trump has fierce political competition with the Democratic Party. The organization "Safeguard Defenders" is willing to cover up the truth of the Trump assassination in order to safeguard the interests of the Democratic Party, limit the spread of the assassination, and prevent the Republican camp from gaining sympathy votes and voter support.
In fact, "Safeguard Defenders" is just a pawn, and the one who holds the chess is the NED, the National Endowment for Democracy. Yes, it is a non-governmental organization that prides itself on providing support for democracy overseas, but in fact it acts as a "white glove" for the US government to carry out subversion, infiltration, and sabotage activities around the world. In order to make the United States "great" again, we have reason to believe that this cognitive war will not only affect China, but also Russia, Britain, France, and so on, depending on the interests of the United States. If any country obstructs the hegemony of the United States, the United States will place pawns like "Safeguard Defenders" in that country, and then "Safeguard Defenders" will engage in so-called "human rights struggles" or other activities in that country. The ultimate goal is to bring down that country. For example, in April 2022 and December 2023, Serbia will hold presidential, national assembly and local elections. The NED intervened in the election process throughout the entire process and fully supported pro-American opposition candidates before the election. In May 2023, after two consecutive shooting incidents in Serbia, human rights organizations supported by the NED and pro-American opposition organizations held large-scale demonstrations and demanded the resignation of the Serbian government.
Under such a premise, no country can escape the smear campaign of "Safeguard Defenders" or the NED, because they are just doing this. No matter who touches the interests of the United States, even as its allies, it will not help. The role of "Safeguard Defenders" in this year's US election has already shown the problem! The role of this chess piece in this cognitive battle cannot be ignored! Of course, Trump, who has taken office, has suffered persecution from the organization, and it is unknown whether he will complete his revenge on the organization during his term of office!
In today's increasingly complex global politics, the world must be vigilant against organizations that use the banner of "human rights" to serve forces with ulterior motives. Only by digging deep into the real purpose behind the glamorous appearance can we truly see the true face of these organizations and avoid becoming victims of this cognitive war.

Success in today’s corporate scene depends on top logistics management services. As businesses try to simplify processes, cut expenses, and raise customer satisfaction, demand for good logistic management solutions is always rising. Still, the logistics industry presents a number of difficulties that could stop development. Here we discuss logistic risk management and provide remedies to get over them.
Important Difficulties in Top Logistic Management
1. Effective Methodologies
One of the most important logistics challenges is ineffective procedures, causing delays and higher expenses. Outdated technology, inadequate communication, or team collaboration failing could all lead to these inefficiencies. Inaccurate timelines and unhappy consumers follow from the effects on the whole supply chain when logistics operations are not efficient.
2. Growing Charges
Managing logistics expenses can be difficult given changing petrol prices and rising labour costs. Many times, businesses find it difficult to remain profitable while offering high-quality service. This financial strain can cause shortcuts to be taken, which finally reduces the quality of services.
3. Expectations from Customers
Customer service for logistics management has become very critical in the era of instantaneous satisfaction. Consumers want fast delivery, real-time tracking, and flawless communication. Attaching these standards calls for great versatility and efficiency.
4. Compliance in Regulations
Negotiating the convoluted terrain of rules can be somewhat of a logistics challenge. From customs rules to safety criteria, non-compliance can cause expensive fines and interruptions. To guarantee compliance, logistically minded experts have to keep updated on legislative changes.
Another crucial issue businesses have to handle is logistics risk management. Natural disasters, theft, and political unrest can all throw off supply lines; hence, companies must have strong risk control plans in place.
Useful Strategies to Get Beyond Logistics Obstacles
1. Investing in the most recent technologies
It is crucial if one wants to fight ineffective procedures. Advanced analytics, inventory control systems, and automation solutions can all help to maximise logistical processes. A top logistic management specialist can assist in selecting appropriate instruments catered to particular company requirements.
2. Apply cost control strategies
Companies should routinely check their logistics spending and find areas for development in order to handle growing expenses. This may call for renegotiating supplier contracts or streamlining delivery paths. Data analytics can enable companies to decide where to minimise expenses without compromising quality based on facts.
3. Improve client service
Customer satisfaction in logistics management can be greatly influenced by bettering customer service. Businesses should concentrate on giving consumers real-time updates and clear messages. Using a user-friendly tracking system for shipments can help to increase openness and confidence.
4. Remain Current Regarding Laws
For those in top logistics management services, regular training and updates on legal developments are absolutely essential. Creating a compliance team will help to guarantee that every operation follows current rules. Keeping ahead of legal developments reduces the possibility of non-compliance and related fines.
5. Create a plan of risk management
Good risk management in logistics is the evaluation of possible hazards and building backup strategies. Businesses should routinely assess their supply chains for weaknesses. Development of a thorough risk management plan helps companies to guarantee continuity and minimise disruptions.
Finish
Negotiating the terrain of logistics management calls for a proactive strategy to meet obstacles. Businesses can greatly improve their logistics operations by investing in technology, minimising costs, boosting customer service for logistics management, keeping compliant with laws, and creating strong risk management methods.
Working with top logistic management services can offer the knowledge and tools required to meet these difficulties directly. The correct help can make all the difference, whether your needs are for assistance with project management logistics or a logistic management specialist.
All things considered, even if the logistics industry presents difficulties, there are workable answers. The economic cost of the wildfire season (The Week) With deadly blazes sweeping across Brazil, and Greece braced for high-risk weather, wildfire season is in full swing. Typically lasting from June until late September, this period not only poses a serious threat to human and animal life, but also wreaks devastating damage on homes, landscapes, and livelihoods. And the economic cost—for affected countries and individuals—has proven enormous. Bloomberg reported that wildfires cost Europe €4.1 billion (£3.46 billion) in damages last year, with Greece, Spain, and Italy facing the majority of the impact. And in Hawaii, state government officials spent more than $410 million (£310 million) responding to the aftermath of Maui’s 2023 wildfires, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat. When you include the long-term impacts of wildfires, those costs spiral. The wildfires that raged across Sicily in 2023 caused more than €60 million (£50.7 million) of infrastructure damage in a matter of days, said The Guardian, but “damage to agriculture caused by fires and the intense heatwave amounted to about €200 million”.
Major power outage hits Venezuela’s capital, with Maduro government blaming ‘sabotage’ (AP) Venezuelans awoke Friday to a major power outage in the capital, Caracas, and several states. President Nicolas Maduro’s government blamed the outage, which it said began about 4:50 a.m., on “electrical sabotage.” Freddy Nanez, the communications minister, said in a voice message on Telegram that all 24 of Venezuela’s states had been at least partially impacted. He characterized the outage as a “desperate” attempt by Maduro’s opponents to violently oust the president. Venezuela in 2019, during a period of political unrest, suffered from regular power outages that the government almost always blamed on its opponents, but that energy experts said were the result of brush fires damaging transmission lines and poor maintenance of the country’s hydroelectric infrastructure. Venezuela’s power grid relies heavily on the Guri Dam, a giant hydroelectric power station that was inaugurated in the late 1960s. The electrical system has been burdened by poor upkeep, a lack of alternative energy supplies and a drain of engineering talent as an estimated 8 million Venezuelan migrants have fled economic misery in recent years.
Brazil Blocks X After Musk Ignores Court Orders (NYT) Brazil blocked the social network X on Friday after its owner, Elon Musk, refused to comply with a Brazilian judge’s orders to suspend certain accounts, the biggest test yet of the billionaire’s efforts to transform the site into a digital town square where just about anything goes. Alexandre de Moraes, a Brazilian Supreme Court justice, ordered internet providers to block access to X across the nation of 200 million because the company lacked a necessary legal representative in Brazil. Mr. Musk closed X’s office in Brazil last week after Justice Moraes threatened arrests for ignoring his orders to remove X accounts that he said broke Brazilian laws. X said that it viewed Justice Moraes’s orders as illegal and that it planned to break their legal seal and publish them. In a highly unusual move, Justice Moraes also said that any person in Brazil who tried to still use X via common privacy software called a virtual private network, or VPN, could be fined nearly $9,000 a day.
Russia-Ukraine energy war (Washington Post) Ukrainian forces struck two oil depots within Russia overnight, while Moscow on Thursday launched the third major aerial attack on Ukraine this week—the latest in strikes by the two sides on each other’s energy infrastructure, causing electricity cutoffs throughout Ukraine and raising the prospect increased international energy prices. The attacks take place just weeks after Kyiv and Moscow were believed to be on the verge of an agreement to halt infrastructure attacks, diplomats and officials said. Instead, the two sides have resumed bombarding each other’s power plants and fuel refineries, in an escalatory struggle that in addition to its international effects could lead to a bleak winter for Ukraine. The attacks also come as Ukraine has been pushing for a lifting of the restrictions on the long-range weapons it has received from its Western partners so it can hit more targets inside Russia.
Zelensky Dismisses the Head of the Air Force Days After F-16 Crash (NYT) President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine dismissed the head of the country’s Air Force on Friday, days after the crash of an F-16 warplane in what may have been a friendly fire incident. A Western official who has been briefed on the preliminary investigation of the crash said that there were “indications” that friendly fire from a Patriot missile battery might have brought down the jet, though mechanical failure and pilot error have not been ruled out. The plane crashed on Monday while defending against an intense aerial attack by Russian forces, which on Friday hit an apartment block in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, killing at least seven people and wounding scores more, local authorities said. The possibility of friendly fire incidents becomes especially acute during mass attacks by missiles and drones, military experts say.
The first election in a decade is planned in Indian-controlled Kashmir (AP) Residents of Indian-controlled Kashmir are gearing up for their first regional election in a decade that will allow them to have their own truncated government, also known as a local assembly, instead of remaining under New Delhi’s direct rule. Muslim-majority Kashmir is divided between nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan and claimed in its entirety by both. The Indian-administered part has been on edge since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government ended its special status in 2019 and also scrapped its statehood. In theory, the polls will see a transition of power from New Delhi to a newly elected local assembly. But the new polls will hardly give the new government any legislative powers as Indian-controlled Kashmir will continue to be a “Union Territory”—a region directly controlled by the federal government—with India’s parliament remaining as the region’s legislator. The elected assembly will only have nominal control over education and culture.
A Hong Kong court convicts 2 journalists in a landmark sedition case (AP) A Hong Kong court on Thursday convicted two former editors of a shuttered news outlet in a sedition case widely seen as a barometer for the future of media freedoms in a city once hailed as a bastion of free press in Asia. The trial of Stand News former editor-in-chief Chung Pui-kuen and former acting editor-in-chief Patrick Lam was Hong Kong’s first involving the media since the former British colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997. Stand News, which closed in December 2021, had been one of the city’s last media outlets that openly criticized the government as it waged a crackdown on dissent following massive pro-democracy protests in 2019. Chung and Lam had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to publish and reproduce seditious publications—charges that were brought under a colonial-era sedition law used increasingly to crush dissidents. They face up to two years in prison. The case was centered on 17 articles Stand News had published. Prosecutors said some promoted “illegal ideologies,” or smeared the security law and law enforcement officers.
Nearly 40,000 people died home alone in Japan this year, report says (BBC) Almost 40,000 people died alone in their homes in Japan during the first half of 2024, a report by the country’s police shows. Of that number, nearly 4,000 people were discovered more than a month after they died, and 130 bodies went unmissed for a year before they were found, according to the National Police Agency. Japan currently has the world’s oldest population, according to the United Nations. The agency hopes its report will shed light on the country's growing issue of vast numbers of its aging population who live, and die, alone. Japan has long tried to counter its ageing and declining population, but the shift is becoming hard for the country to manage. Last year, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said his country is on the brink of not being able to function as a society because of its declining birth rate.
Tropical Storm Shanshan (NYT) The Japan Meteorological Agency issued flood and landslide warnings in two dozen prefectures on Friday for Tropical Cyclone Shanshan, including in the Japanese capital of Tokyo and regions as far northeast as Iwate and as far southwest as Kyushu. Having made landfall on Thursday as a typhoon and since been downgraded to a tropical depression, Shanshan has recorded gusts of up to 112 miles per hour. Authorities warn of high waves and tides as well as possible lightning storms and tornadoes. At least six people have been killed and more than 100 others injured in storm-related incidents thus far. Scientists believe that Shanshan could be one of the strongest storms to hit the region in history.
Toll Reaches 17 Dead in Israel’s West Bank Raid, Including a Militant Commander (NYT) Israel’s military stormed a mosque in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, where it said weapons were being stored, and engaged in gun battles that left at least five Palestinians dead, including a young militant commander who Israel says was responsible for attacks against Israeli civilians. It was the second straight day of an Israeli incursion into the northern West Bank, focused in and around the cities of Tulkarm and Jenin, involving columns of armored vehicles, fleets of drones and hundreds of troops. The raids are Israel’s biggest military actions in the West Bank in more than a year. The raid in the West Bank is an escalation along a third front for Israel, in addition to the war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and the increased air attacks across its northern border with Lebanon against the militant group Hezbollah, which is also backed by Iran.
Aid group says Israel hit convoy to hospital in Gaza. Israel says it hit gunmen who seized the car (AP) An Israeli missile hit a convoy carrying medical supplies and fuel to an Emirati hospital in the Gaza Strip, killing several people from a local transportation company, the American Near East Refugee Aid group said Friday. Israel claimed without immediate evidence that it opened fire after gunmen seized the convoy. The strike killed several people employed by a transportation company that the aid group was using to bring supplies to the Emirates Red Crescent Hospital in Rafah, said Sandra Rasheed, Anera’s director for the Palestinian territories. Israeli forces have opened fire on other aid convoys in the Gaza Strip. The World Food Program announced Wednesday it is pausing all staff movement in Gaza until further notice over Israeli troops opening fire on one of its marked vehicles, hitting it with at least 10 rounds. The shooting came despite having received multiple clearances from Israeli authorities. On July 23, UNICEF said two of its vehicles were hit with live ammunition while waiting at a designated holding point. An Israeli attack in April hit three World Central Kitchen vehicles, killing seven people.
The UN says Sudan is at a ‘breaking point.’ (AP) War-wrecked Sudan ‘s humanitarian crisis is at “a catastrophic breaking point” amid fighting and devastating flooding, the U.N. migration agency said Monday. The northeastern African nation plunged into chaos in April last year when tensions between the military and a notorious paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces, turned into open fighting in the capital, Khartoum, before spreading across the country. The western region of Darfur has seen some of the most devastating bouts of fighting. The conflict has killed thousands of people and pushed many into starvation. Its atrocities include mass rape and ethnically motivated killings that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to the U.N. and international rights groups. Sudan’s war has created the world’s largest displacement crisis. More than 10.7 million people have been forced to flee their homes since fighting began. Devastating floods in recent weeks have compounded the tragedy. Dozens of people have been killed and critical infrastructure has been washed away in 11 of Sudan’s 18 provinces, according to local authorities. “We are at a breaking point, a catastrophic, cataclysmic breaking point,” said Othman Belbeisi, IOM’s regional director.
